世界文学とStylometry

講師：Jan Rybicki氏（Professor of English Studies, Jagiellonian University, Poland）

Jan Rybicki氏はポーランドの古都クラクフにある同国最古の大学, ヤギェウォ大学の英語英文学教授であるとともに, 同大学のデジタルヒューマニティーズ・センターの所長を務めている。Rybicki氏は, 英語英文学研究, 比較文学, 翻訳研究を学術的バックボーンとする一方, 翻訳の計量文体学的研究 (“The Great Mystery of the (Almost) Invisible Translator: Stylometry in Translation”), 著者推定研究 (“Partners in Life, Partners in Crime?”), 文体におけるジェンダー研究 (“Vive la différence: Tracing the (Authorial) Gender Signal by Multivariate Analysis of Word Frequencies”) などの成果を数多く学術誌に発表している。Rybicki氏の最近の研究成果としては, Harper Lee and Elena Ferranteの著作に関する著者推定研究がある他, ポーランドの国民的作家 ヘンリク・シェンキェヴィチ (Henryk Sienkiewicz) の原作および，英語，イタリア語の翻訳版についての著者帰属研究がある。同氏はRのstyloパッケージの開発にも関わっている。前職では文学作品の翻訳を専門としており，ウィリアム・ゴールディング，ナディン・ゴーディマー，スコット・フィッツジェラルド，カズオ・イシグロやジョン・ル・カレの作品のポーランド語翻訳を著している。

Jan Rybicki is Professor of English Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, where he also heads the University’s Digital Humanities Centre. With a background in English literary studies, comparative literature and translation studies, he has published on stylometry in translation (“The Great Mystery of the (Almost) Invisible Translator: Stylometry in Translation”), authorship attribution (“Partners in Life, Partners in Crime?”) and gender (“Vive la différence: Tracing the (Authorial) Gender Signal by Multivariate Analysis of Word Frequencies”). His latest papers includes attributive work on Harper Lee and Elena Ferrante; he has also published on various aspects of the writing of Sienkiewicz in the original and in English and Italian translation. He helped write the stylo package for R. A literary translator in his previous lifetime, he translated into Polish such authors as Golding, Gordimer, Fitzgerald, Ishiguro or le Carré.

大阪大学大学院人文学研究科教授（言語文化学専攻，理論言語学・デジタルヒューマニティーズ講座）。同大学グローバル日本学教育研究拠点デジタル日本学部門，及びデータビリティフロンティア機構教授を兼任。The Association for Literary and Linguistic Computing (現 The European Association for Digital Humanities) の執行役員，デジタルヒューマニティーズ学協会連合の執行役員を長く務めた。現在，日本デジタルヒューマニティーズ学会会長，英語コーパス学会会長を務める。主に自然言語処理，統計学を応用したテクスト分析研究を実践しており, チャールズ・ディケンズを中心に18–19世紀の代表的英文学作品テクストを対象として, デジタルヒューマニティーズの方法論を応用することにより, 文体論研究の新地平を追求している。共著書に『コーパスと英語文体』(ひつじ書房, 2016), Advancing Digital Humanities: Research, Methods, Theories (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015)など。国際文体論学会(PALA2021), 台湾DH学会(DA/DH2019), 韓国比較文学会(2019)，大英図書館でのGale DH Day(2019)ほか，招待講演多数。
