Description:

Hands-on tutorial for anyone interested in HTR (automatic transcription of manuscripts or prints) with the open-source platform eScriptorium, particularly for non-Western writing systems. Learn how to automatically or manually segment the layout of a page, transcribe your manuscript. Teach the AI to adapt to your data. Import and export models trained by others.

Aim of the workshop/tutorial:

The goal of this tutorial is to introduce participants to the principles and hands-on practice of the eScriptorium platform for the automatic and/or manual segmentation and transcription of manuscripts and printed books in a very wide range of languages, writing-systems and complex page-layouts. Participants will be introduced to the platform, focussing particularly on the key design decisions that distinguish it from other HTR systems, including the free sharing of trained models and that the system should be as independent as possible of any assumptions about language or script.
